Originally from Steely Dan’s Pretzel Logic album, this Wilco cover comes from the Me, Myself and Irene soundtrack…

Really, is there anything better than cheese?  Robyn Hitchcock, who over 30 years into his career has shown that some artists just don’t ever lose their spark, put out this ode to cheese a few years ago.  In short: goofily brilliant (particularly for those who, like me, find that each cheese he mentions sounds better than the last…).

Jonathan Richman covering Stop Your Sobbing.  Love this version as it is so completely JR.  Nerd background trivia:

- Originally released by the Kinks in 1964

- Was covered by The Pretenders as their first single in 1979 (produced by Nick Lowe). According to the good people at Wikipedia, Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) and Ray Davies (Kinks) had not met when they covered the song.

In honor of the tickets I just received for the Nov 21st English Beat show at the Stephen Talkhouse, here’s my favorite cover of Save it for Later.  It’s a great live, stripped-down version and if you can’t recognize the singer, you probably aren’t listening to this.

The Pastels doing Different Drum, written by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees, originally performed by the Greenbriar Boys and made famous by The Stone Poneys (with vocals by Linda Rondstadt, whose name I would argue, remains one of the least-likely pop star names of all-time).
